Silent People's Commissioned Work of Art
Suomussalmi, Kainuu
The Silent People Sculpture. The Silent People consists of around a thousand turf-covered figures standing on a field in Käpylän, alongside Viitostie. The sculpture was created by dancer and choreographer Reijo Kela. The Silent People received its current home in autumn 1994. The Hanslankarit workshop repairs and maintains the sculpture twice a year. During the summer, the Niittykahvila café operates near the sculpture, where you can buy baked goods and coffee. It's worth visiting here, as the figures on the field have caused confusion and amazement even around the world. Recommended for all ages. Admission is free. Visit here in the summer.
